08 Jan How to Add a DIY Water Feature to Your Backyard in 5 Easy Steps
We’re excited to share with you how to install your very own outdoor water feature, and give your lawn the instant upgrade it deserves. Don’t worry if you’ve never done anything like this before, we’ll guide you through step-by-step.
Step 1: Choose the Perfect Spot
First things first, determining where to place your water feature is key. We suggest choosing a spot that’s visible from inside your house, like your kitchen window or back porch. That way, you’ll have a beautiful view of it from indoors, and it will draw you outside to enjoy it up close.
Step 2: Prepare Your Foundation
Now let’s get into the installation process. You’ll need a basin and a three-part stacked slate sphere (or another topper of your choice). We recommend the 100-gallon basin, which is 44 inches by 44 inches and 16 inches deep. Once you’ve chosen your location, dig a square hole to fit the basin and place it inside. It’s essential to make sure the basin is level to prevent water from spilling off to one side and flow evenly over the fountain.
Step 3: Connect the Pipes and Adjust Pressure
Next, drop your pipe down through the bottom of the sphere and feed it into the basin. Reach into the opening in the back corner of the basin, attach the adapter to the pipe, and screw it into the pump. Open one valve only since the others won’t be used, and place it in the basin. Once you plug it in, water will immediately start shooting out of the top, so be ready to adjust the valve to control the pressure on the fountain.
Step 4: Add the Finishing Touches
Finally, add some rocks to the top of the basin, and consider adding a few plants to make it a beautiful focal point in your yard. If the stacked slate isn’t your style, there are tons of different toppers you can choose from that have the same mechanics.
Step 5: Enjoy Your DIY Oasis!
Transforming your yard with a water fountain is like adding a touch of magic to your outdoor space. Not only does a fountain bring a sense of tranquility and relaxation, but it also creates a focal point that enhances the overall aesthetics of your yard. The soothing sound of flowing water can drown out unwanted noise and create a peaceful ambiance, making your yard a haven for relaxation, meditation, or even a peaceful place to get some work done. Additionally, a water fountain can attract wildlife, such as birds and butterflies, adding a touch of nature and creating a vibrant ecosystem right in your own backyard. It’s incredible how a simple addition like a water fountain can elevate your yard from ordinary to extraordinary, leaving you with a space that truly feels like a retreat.
