Why Driveway Aprons are So Critical (and Expensive!)

Believe it or not, the apron is the most critical part of a driveway. It absorbs the shock from cars that drive in and out, stop and wait, and bump off the curb. Because of this, it also needs to be the sturdiest part of the structure, so we pay extra attention to making it perfect and long-lasting. We talked about this and more in Part 1, so jump over and watch it if you haven’t already!

After solving the driveway issues, we knew we need to add a little something more…

To make the driveway area both functional AND beautiful, we replaced the problematic stacked slate around the flower beds with walls that were both sturdier and gave a smoother look to the space. As we worked, we laid down nylon geogrid (a type of woven fabric) to prevent rutting and other common problems.

The highlight, of course, is the paver driveway, complete with a lighted spherical water feature that will make these homeowners feel an instant sense of peace as they pull into their home. We also added a few extra lights outside the garage, because outdoor lighting always levels-up our projects.

Finally, we finished out the backyard with an open-grade style paver, added some drainage, and the problematic driveway became a functional, durable, piece of art in this Yorktown home. Keep watching and scrolling through the pictures to see the finished project!
